Air Force Common Admission Test 2 (AFCAT)
Indian Air Force invites applications through www.careerairforce.nic.in Indian Citizens (Men and Women) for the Flying/Technical/Ground Duty courses commencing in June 2017 for the grant of Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent/Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) - 2/2016.

Flying Branch:
(a) No. 202/17F/SSC/M & W (Short Service Commission for men and women)
Technical Branch:
(a) No. 201/17T/PC/M (Permanent Commission for men).
(b) No. 201/17T/SSC/M & W(Short Service Commission for men and women).
Ground Duity Branches:
(a) No. 201/17G/PC/M (Permanent Commission for men).
(b) No. 201/17G/SSC/M & W (Short Service Commission for men and women).
AFCAT-2 Important Dates:
- Start Date to apply for the AFCAT - 2 is 4 June 2016.
- Last Date to apply 30 June 2016.
- Date of Exam 26 August 2016.
Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT -2/2016:
1. Flying Branch - (202/17F/SSC/M & W)
(a) Age: 20 to 24 as on 01 July 2017 ie. Born between 02 July 1993 to 01 July 1997 (both dates inclusive). Upper age limit for the candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA is relaxable upto 26 years, ie. Born between 02 Jully 1991 to 01 July 1997.
(b) Educational Qualifications: Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level or BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
2. Technical Branch - (201/17T/PC/M, 201/17T/SSC/M & W):
(a) Age: 20 to 26 years as on 01 July 2017 i.e. Born between 02 July 1991 to 01 July 1997 (both
dates inclusive).
(b) Educational Qualifications:
- Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L)): Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year graduation / integrated post graduation qualification in Engineering / Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies. All the students applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate if all the subjects are put together.
- Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M)): Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year graduation / integrated postgraduation qualification in Engineering / Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies. All the students applying for AE (M) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate if all the subjects are put together.
3. Ground Duty Branches - (201/17G/PC/M, 201/17G/SSC/M & W):
(a) Age: 20 to 26 year as on 01 July 2017 i.e. Born between 02 July 1991 to 01 July 1997 (both
dates inclusive).

How to Apply:
- The candidate can apply only through online mode.
- The candidates can visit the career website of IAF which is www.careerairforce.nic.in .
Candidates appearing in final year/semester examinations may apply for all courses
commencing in July 2017 provided they fulfil the following conditions:-
(a) Candidates should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60%
marks upto the last semester / year for which results have been declared at the time of online
submission and at the time of SSB.
(b) Candidates should be able to provide provisional / original degree certificate issued by University
latest by 15 June 2017.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
All applicants whose applications are submitted by due date will be called for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) (applicable only for candidates applying for technical branch) to be conducted on 28 August 2016 (Sunday) at one of the examination centres. Candidates will be required to login to their candidate login accounts regularly for information on AFCAT, EKT (if applicable) and AFSB testing. The AFCAT will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness and military aptitude. Sample question papers and syllabus of AFCAT/EKT is available on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in.
EKT would be for 45 minutes and conducted immediately after AFCAT.
Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT/EKT) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, Varanasi or Kancharapara. The testing would consist of three stages as given below:
(a). Stage-I Test consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing.
All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage-I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.
(b). Stage-II testing consisting of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted
on subsequent days (Five Days).
(c) For Flying Branch: CPSS (Computerised Pilot Selection System) and / PABT would be
administered to eligible candidates.
Change of Interview Dates.: Request for change of SSB interview date should be avoided. However, as an exception, such change may be considered based on the circumstances of the case. Request for such change should be forwarded to the respective AFSB from where the call letter for SSB interview has been received and not to Air Headquarters / AFCAT Cell. The AFSBs may consider change of date at their discretion. - You are advised to note down Registration number for future correspondence. Candidates are advised to read the notification for AFCAT 02 / 2016 and the detailed guidelines for filling up Online application as given in the website www.careerairforce.nic.in prior to commencement of filling up Online applications.
- While filling Online application, it is advisable to keep the relevant documents readily available, as details are to be filled as per matriculation & other educational certificates.
- Please save your recent colour passport size photograph (size 10 to 50 KB) in the computer for uploading it with your Online application form.
- Please note that utmost care needs to be taken while filling up the Online application. In case any information is found to be incorrect then the candidature is likely to be cancelled at any stage of the selection process.
- Submission of more than one application will result in cancellation of candidature.
