Indian Coast Guard Interview Process for PSB and FSB



Hello aspirants, Today I will tell you about the selection procedure for Indian Coast Guard. This is a good opportunity for those who want to join para military forces.

Recently Indian Coast Guard issued a notification for the recruitment of Assistant Commandant.

The procedure of selection of Indian Coast Guard is very much similar to the SSB but it differs at some points.

So lets see the selection procedure for the selection of Indian Coast Guard:





   1.     Short Listing of Candidates: This is the first stage of the selection procedure. In this the applications are shortlisted based on the percentage of the qualifying examination. The short listed candidates will be called for the further processes.

2.     Preliminary Selection Board Interview: In this stage, the shortlisted candidates are called for the Preliminary Selection at any of the four centres which are Kolkata, Noida, Chennai and Mumbai. It is conducted in two phases:
  •      In the first phase consist of Reasoning test. In this test, the candidates are made to sit in a hall and the questions will be displayed on the screen for a specific amount of time and the previous questions will not be displayed on the screen if next question is displayed. The candidates have to mark the answers on the OMR sheet. The duration for the test will be 40-60 minutes. It is an elimination test so marks your answers correctly. The result of  the test after be declared within 2-3 hrs of test. The successful candidates will go for further tests.
  •      In the second phase, PP&DT  or Picture Perception and Description test will be conducted. It is same to the test conducted in the SSB Interview. You are advised to carefully watch the picture, which is displayed minutely on the screen. The picture will be shown for 30 seconds on the screen and then you have to write the details about the  characters in the picture. After that you have to write a story based on the characters seen  in the picture. This followed by discussion test. Where you are divided into a group of 15-20 candidates. Now each candidate has to narrate his/her own story and the group  discusses and come up with a common story. After this the candidates will be shortlisted  and then the shortlisted candidates will be called for the Final Selection Board.

3.     Final Selection Board Interview: This is a four day test which follows the similar pattern to  the SSB interview after Screening procedure. This is a personality test in which three assessors  access the candidate. .The Physiological Test will be conducted on the first day. The GT Test  may happen on the Second and Third day, the Interviews may be  scheduled on any of the four  days. On the fourth day, a Board Conference will be held, after  that the results are announced.  

4.     The Physiological Test is conducted through the means of psych tests which consist of  Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test(WAT), Situation Reaction Test  (SRT) and Self-Description Test (SDT). The candidate's response in the Test will the  psychologist to understand the personality of the candidate and to decide his suitability for the job.

5.     The next Assessor will be the Group Testing Officer or GTO which tests the candidate based  on  their practical group and individual performance. The test conducted in the Coast Guard are  two Group Discussion, one Group Planning Exercise and Lecturette. You are advised to be enthusiastic throughout the whole GTO task.

6.     The next Assessor is  the Interviewing Officer. He tests the candidate based on the response given by them in the Personal Interview. The personal interview question can range from the personal sphere of a candidate to day-to-day happenings in the world. 

     7.     The final day a Board Conference will be held where all the three assessors along with the Board President sit and the candidates will appear one by one., each is asked some general questions related to stay and food. After the conference, the result will be declared. 

     8.  Medical and Merit: After the result, the successful candidates are sent for medical, if they have applied for the flying pilot, then they are sent for Pilot  Aptitude and Battery Test  (PABT) at AFSB Dehradun or AFSB Mysore. The final merit list declares the final list of  selected candidates.
