Types Of Entries To Join Armed Forces After 10+2






There are number of types of entries in the Armed Forces in India. The basic entries for the Armed Forces is through National Defence Academy(NDA) at 10+2 level. Also a student can apply after doing graduation.

So following are the Details of Entries in Armed Forces.



National Defence Academy(NDA):  NDA is an opportunity for the young aspirants to join Indian Armed Forces. A candidate can get selected in any of the three wings of Indian Armed Forces- Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Indian Navy. The age limit of this entry is 16 ½ - 19 ½ years. The minimum qualification for the NDA is 10+2 and for Army and  Air Force you need to have Physics and Maths in 10+2.

Technical Entry Scheme: The Technical Entry Scheme is also an opportunity for the students who have passed 12th. The age limit for applying is 16 ½ - 19 ½ years and a candidate must have an aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The initial selection of the candidates is based on the percentage of PCM, the shortlisted candidates are then called for the SSB.

CDS(Combined Defence Services Examination): CDS is a type of entry that is provided by the army and conducted by UPSC for the selection of officers after graduation. This provides the opportunity for the aspirants to join Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy. The final year candidates and those who have completed their graduation can appear for the CDS exam.



AFCAT(Airforce Common Admission Test): For the Air Force aspirants this is a good opportunity for them after graduation. Final year students can also appear for the examination. It  have vacancies for various posts Pilot entry, Technical entry, GDOC. Most of the entries require candidates, having Maths and Physics as their subjects in 10+2 and Technical Entries mostly requires Engineering degree.

UES(University Entry Scheme): India Navy and Indian Army provides vacancies to the engineering students of final and  pre-final year students. The selection is done by the crew of respective forces on the selected campus and the selected candidates are later provided dates for the SSB interview.

TGC(Technical Graduate Course): A course for the Engineering students who have passed out or in final year. The age limit for this course is 20-27 years. The course is for the Indian Army aspirants. The selection for this course is on the basis of the percentage of the candidates in engineering degree. A cut-off is marked and the candidates who have cut off  above the marked cut off will be short-listed for further interviews.


SSC Tech Entry: This entry is for both men and women but it is limited to Engineering Students. The procedure of the selection is on the basis of the percentage in engineering some how same as TGC entry. The age limit for this entry is 20-27 years. After the selection of candidates, the ttraing of candidates take place at OTA, Chennai.

SSC Navy(Pilot/Observer): Indian Navy provide vacancies for Pilot and  Observer. The age limit for the post is 19-24 years and the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) holders can apply upto the age of 25. Btech candidates with percentage above 60% can apply for this. The candidates who having above percentage cutt-off decided by the selection panel will be called for SSb interview.

NCC Entry: This entry is especially for the NCC candidates to get entry in Army, Navy and Air Force. The age limit for army is 19-25 years, for navy it is from 19-22 and for Air Force it is 19-23 years. NCC entry requires certificate in the force you are applying for. The candidates must have minimum B grade in C  certificate with minimum 50% marks if you are applying for Army. For Air Force, a candidate must have physics and Maths in 10+2 or BE along with NCC Air Wing's C certificate. For Navy, a candidate must have C certificate in NCC with BSc or BE.

Territorial Army: Territorial Army is the opportunity for those who are working and want to work in Indian Army. The officers in TA will have to serve for a specific period of time. A candidate must have done graduation. The age limit for this type of entry is 18-42 years, having any government or private employment.

  1. Hello sir I ama Mohammad Iqbal and i am from Jammu and kashmir i have completed my 12+ now i am pursuing B.com (Hon's) in Chandigarh University i have goted the NCC B Certificate in Army Wing how can join the IMA after Completed my Graduation Please Give me some suggestion Thank U

    1. U can apply either for IMA or OTA through CDS exam after the completion of ur Bcom. And if u can also apply for Air Force if u want to, through AFCAT exam for ground duity.

  2. Sir I m anshul bansal.. completed my 12th from commerce stream in 2015 and now pusrsuing b.com and i am ncc cadet also in 1 raj air sqn. Ncc and i want to join indian air force as flying officer.... i mean officer rank. What are the options i have to join IAF.

  3. Hello sir i have completed my class 12 with 78 % how i can join indian army and if i join army.through rallies is there any way to become officer after joining
